Grand Traverse
Sentinel to Bushman’s Nek via Mt Aux Sources, Cleft, Champagne, Giants, Thabana Ntlenyane
The ultimate bucket list hike in South Africa, our annual Drakensberg Grand Traverse is a once in a lifetime outdoor adventure and endurance event experience. Moving through an isolated world heritage wilderness for days on end, wild camping, drinking from streams, and completely self sufficient; a nightmare for some, but an irresistible attraction for others.
Covering 220km of mountainous terrain with roughly 10,000m of elevation, we move a little faster than standard groups covering roughly 25km a day, to finish in 9.5 days (as opposed to the usual 12-14)
The group is compact, at a maximum of 8 hikers (6 guests and 2 guides), and all hikers are required to carry their own gear, food and equipment.
Apart from the standard guiding setup, including sat comms and first aid, we provide one resupply near the halfway mark, all the dinners, cooking gear, as well as suitable alpine tents. Accommodation before and after the hike, as well as the shuttle from finish to start, is also included.
Due to the nature of the hike as well as the group dynamics, participation is subject to a phone call interview where potential hikers can punt their relevant experience, and also receive more detailed information on the planned route, logistics and requirements.
For more detailed insights on the hike, checkout the Grand Traverse article in the Hike Report section.
