Tugela & Ifidi
Take in some of the most iconic Drakensberg views and experience both camping on the summit, as well as in a berg escarpment cave.
On day 1 we shuttle to the Sentinel car park and ascend gradually for a few kilometers to the renowned chain ladders. After climbing the chain ladders and reaching the summit we have lunch at the highest falls in the world, Tugela falls, before heading along the amphitheatre to find a quiet camping spot. The sunset and sunrise views are a highlight, standing above the vast basalt cliffs with views across to the Sentinel and the Tugela falls to the north, and the eastern buttress to the south.
Day 2 sees us traversing along the edge of the escarpment via Mt Amery to Ifidi Cave. A wide overhang cave with spots for tents and as always, Lesotho streams are nearby for a swim. From the cave and surrounds, we take in elevated views from a whole other spectrum towards the Mnweni region.
After sunrise with coffee on day 3, we head down the valley on a more direct route to the chain ladders, and descend back to the car park, with a lunch stop at the amphitheatre view point
